Designers on Tour: With a selected group of fashion and textile designers, the Design Zentrum explores Sweden's textile capital in April.
With the first edition of the excursion format Designers on Tour, the Design Zentrum Hamburg is offering designers from the local fashion and textile industry the opportunity to take part in curated tours in Sweden's textile capital Borås, explore the latest developments and network with international players. Interested parties can apply to participate until 23 February.
Excursion to the Swedish hot spot for textile and fashion design: For the first Designers on Tour, Design Zentrum Hamburg is organising an excursion to Borås in Sweden together with the Swedish Embassy in Berlin, the City of Borås and the University of Borås. The aim is to promote the exchange of information and knowledge in the field of sustainable, regional textile production and to enable young fashion brands and designers from Hamburg to learn about innovations and best practice examples from Sweden that they can transfer to their work.
The selected participants will gain exclusive insights into production facilities of established Swedish brands and manufacturers (such as Brunngård, Fristads, Ellos, Gina Tricot, Syverket, Jeansverket) as well as into the tasks and focus of the City of Borås with regard to sustainable textile location development and learn new things about resource recovery during a visit to the Textile Lab.
Design Zentrum Hamburg organises the entire travel programme and covers the costs of hotel accommodation (including breakfast) and transfers to the textile companies, museums, universities and events. Participants pay a travel allowance of €100.00 net as well as their travel to and from the event and individual catering on site. When applying, participants can specify companies that are of particular interest to them. The organisation will try to take these wishes into account.
Designers from the fashion and textile sector can apply:
The Design Zentrum Hamburg is responsible for selecting the participants. In addition to innovation and expertise, a special focus will be placed on diversity in order to promote exchange on a professional and cultural level. The trip should also be as barrier-free as possible.
Known as the historic capital of Scandinavia's textile industry and only an hour away from Gothenburg, Borås is a must for anyone interested in design. Where weaving mills stood in the 19th century is now the Textile Fashion Centre, a creative hub for science, education and innovation. In 2021, the Swedish government has also launched an initiative, in which the Swedish Fashion Council is also involved, to promote sustainable developments in the Swedish textile and fashion industry.
The Designers on Tour excursion format is dedicated to international dialogue between design and industry. On excursions to hot spots in various design disciplines, participants find out about the latest developments and network with international players.
The Design Zentrum Hamburg, an initiative of the Hamburg Kreativ Gesellschaft, is tasked with the promotion, visualisation and networking of Hamburg's design industry. With events, exhibitions as well as promotional and further education offers, the Design Zentrum promotes cooperation within the industry and beyond.
