Intersectional approaches for inclusive design
We encounter design everywhere. Analogue and digitally designed products, spaces and processes shape our environment and our daily perception. Design and creation can be consciously or unconsciously discriminatory, for example by (re)producing sexist, gender-binary or racist exclusions. In order to critically scrutinise this, an intersectional understanding of power is essential.
Intersectional design is an approach that takes into account various dimensions of people's identities, such as gender, race, class, sexuality, age, disability and nationality. It aims to honour the diversity of people and ensure that products, services and systems are as accessible and usable as possible for everyone.
At the workshop, we will explore together how equality and inclusion can be promoted through design.
