New life was breathed into HafenCity in spring: The Westfield Hamburg Überseequartier has opened. The idea and initial plans for the 419,000 m² project are now more than twenty years old. The shopping and residential quarter in the south of the neighbourhood is thus putting old questions of urban planning and design back on the agenda. By whom and how is the public space designed and for what purpose? What potential and what problems does the design of the new neighbourhood entail?
At Design, Walk & Talk, we will open up different design perspectives on the project. We start with a guided tour by Dirk Hünerbein, the project manager of Westfield Hamburg Überseequartier. During the subsequent talk at the Design Centre, he will discuss questions about the design of the new quarter and the public space with three other experts from various disciplines.
Please note: You can choose between the ticket types "Tour & Talk" and "Talk". Participants for the talk part of the evening can come to the Design Centre at 7 pm.

During the approximately one-hour tour, we will visit Westfield Hamburg Überseequartier together to learn more about the project's unique design features. Dirk Hünerbein will lead the tour. As Director of Development at Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield for Austria and Germany, he oversaw the opening of Westfield Hamburg Überseequartier – and therefore has many exciting insights to share.
Following the tour, we will walk back to the Design Center together. After a short break, we will continue with the talk portion of the evening. Participants who have only registered for the talk are welcome to join us at this point.
How can the new district be evaluated from a design perspective? What conclusions can be drawn from the project in terms of the design of public spaces? In the discussion round, experts from various disciplines will share their different perspectives. We look forward to welcoming: Dirk Hünerbein (Director of Development Germany at Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield), Matthias Latzke (HPP Architects, planning of Westfield), Julia Staron (neighborhood manager St. Pauli), and Tobias Hoss (project manager at the urban development office urbanista). Afterward, we will open the floor for questions from the audience.
Participants who have only registered for the talk can come to the Design Zentrum at 7 p.m.
Exchange ideas, ask any remaining questions and network with the speakers. Cool drinks are available for cash at the bar.
