The Paper Studio is the German branch of the Peace Paper Project. The international community art initiative uses traditional papermaking as a means of personal expression, social participation and community engagement. In workshops, the project works together with art therapists, activists and local communities, among others.
During the Design Visit, we will gain an insight into the artisanal papermaking process in the workshop and the work of the Peace Paper Project. The visit will be led by Drew Matott. He is a master papermaker, co-director of the Peace Paper Project and runs the Paper Studio together with artist Jana Schumacher. His work combines traditional papermaking techniques with socially engaged art and community work.
At the visit he will talk about the making and handling of paper and the connection between social engagement and activism through paper.

As part of the Design Visits, we take designers to exciting locations, exhibitions, production facilities, and craft workshops in Hamburg, such as print shops, textile and fashion production facilities, carpentry shops, metalworking shops, and recycling companies, as well as trade shows and museums.
During these excursions, you’ll gain fascinating insights into the institutions, workshops, manufacturing techniques, and production processes, and you’ll have the opportunity to find inspiration for future projects and make new connections.
Past excursions have included visits to the Museum für Museum für Kunst & Gewerbe (MK&G) and Montblanc Haus.
