What is it about?

One evening, one topic, two lectures, two perspectives. Once a month, we invite two speakers to give the audience insights into current issues from a wide range of design disciplines on topics relevant to design. This time Prof. Dr. Anke Haarmann and Karel Golta will present insight into current issues and their work around speculative design. They will illustrate why speculation is becoming an increasingly important skill in times of crisis and uncertainty. Because speculative design creates future scenarios in experimental projects in order to discover potentials for the present. You will learn at which interfaces to politics, economy, climate crisis and society the still quite young discipline of speculative design increasingly accompanies discourses. 

About Anke Haarmann

Anke Haarmann is a philosopher, artist and design theorist at the University of Applied Sciences, or HAW, Hamburg. There she directs the Center for Design Research (ZfD), a platform for practice-based, aesthetic design research as well as critical design theory. In her theoretical as well as aesthetic practice, Haarmann works on artistic research as well as design research and has published numerous papers in this field.

How can I participate?

Hamburg Design Talks takes place at the Design Zentrum Hamburg. To participate free of charge, please register in advance via Eventbrite.

Note: 2G-Plus event

The event will take place under 2G-Plus conditions (fully vaccinated or recovered plus negative rapid antigen test result). In accordance with theHamburg SARS-CoV-2 Containment Ordinance, prior to entering the event premises, all participants must, in accordance with the 2G-Plus access model (Section 10k), either...

... a coronavirus vaccination certificate (complete vaccination) in accordance with § 2(5), or
... a proof of convalescence according to § 2 (6) (the result must be at least 28 days old).
In addition, an official negative result of a rapid antigen test is required (according to § 10k and § 10h). Vaccinated persons are exempt from the obligation to present proof of testing in accordance with § 2(9) if they present proof of a booster vaccination in accordance with § 2(6a) or proof of recovery in accordance with § 2(6).

The proof must be presented with an official photo ID in each case. We use the CovPass-Check app to check digital vaccination and convalescent certificates for validity.

Furthermore, all participants are required to wear a medical mask (§ 9). However, this does not apply to presenters or during permitted consumption.
